Purpose of the residency

I would like to prepare for the upcoming exhibition, the Hyundai Motor Series 2023, which is held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea in September.
This exhibition consists of stories about people who left Korea in the early 20th century. I'm going to research the immigration history and produce some part of two works, "百年旅行記(100-Year Travelogue)," "想像曲(Imaginary Song)" at TOKAS.
For 百年旅行記, I will take some videos of the descendant of Korean immigrants, port cities, the Sugarcane field and cactus fields in Japan.
想像曲 is a recording sound installation of songs sung in a unique vocal style that belongs to a certain culture. So, I would like to record the voice of singers that belong to very specifically Japanese culture. I will search for a traditional unique Japanese singing style that is very different from the world's popular singing style that we got used to. I will rent a recording studio and record the songs with a singer in Tokyo.
