Purpose of the residency

Montreal city, Quebec, Research of Canadian landscape.I will also find new motifs by walking around townscapes and buildings in Montreal and the nature within the city. Also I want to do research on ice hockey at the same time. Ice hockey is very popu-lar in Canada and it is a part of people's lives. Quebec has a long history of ice hockey in Canada, and you can see many materials such as skate rinks, armors and tools. From the old days, when hockey was played on frozen natural ponds and rivers to the way of contemporary hockey, I want to research canadian history that grew with the canadian landscape and its people, and connect it to my works.

Activities during the residency

The research I did in Canada focused on the two topics of Canadian Landscape and Ice Hockey. I made drawings and sketches visiting Montreal’s Parks, Townscapes and Quebec’s National Parks. By visiting the National Museum of Art and the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa and Toronto and doing research on the Art of the Indigenous people and modern artists I learnt about the life of people and the scenery in those days, how people related to nature and oil painting techniques. It wasn’t Ice Hockey season, but I was able to see some games and visit a Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and museums where I could see some related materials. Regarding work production, I made drawings in the large studio that was prepared for me. I was also able to make new experiments with my Oil Paintings. I also participated in a drawing class in Shawinigan where I drew nude model.
