In residence at Tokyo Wonder Site I intend to develop a new video project in collaboration with Ikebana groups based in Tokyo, enacting their artisans and members as participants. Focusing on their own individual practice we will work collaboratively to develop a series of intimate video sequences. Rather than 'documenting' this tradition, video will be used to negotiate their lived experiences expressed through plants and flowers and my artistic re-imagining of the practice.
On residency I will experiment with handheld LED video projection technology in public space and extend the way location specific materials function as sculptural forms within gallery contexts. I intend to make video more mobile and treat sculpture as an interactive physical form to be adapted by viewers to forge more tactile connections with place. In this, I aim to extend the potential of my practice to create a more persistent and dynamic exchange--a mobius strip where participants, their community and the artwork continually turn in on each other.
