Purpose of the residency

During the residency at TOKAS, we will initiate a work engaging with the ways we inhabit the world and exploring the fragile architectures we build, whether material or social. This project continues the research on architecture in an expanded sense, focusing here on the relation between body and matter through cycles of creation and destruction. The process will be centered on the manipulation of a set of bricks as a shifting ground and a mutable structure. We aim to develop a research framework in which movement, sound and light function as an interdependent environment.

Plan during the residency
  • Conduct movement research focusing on weight transfer, constraint, and shifting ground and refine sequences of construction/dismantling through studio practice.
  • Test the materiality of bricks as both choreographic partners and evolving architectures.
  • Study verticality, architectural sites and social infrastructures in Tokyo relevant to the themes of 2100.
  • Meet artists and researchers to expand the project’s grounding.
  • Produce documentation and preliminary installative and choreographic materials for the next stage of the work.
