Purpose of the residency
I am planning to work on a documentary project that deals with the common human fantasy about the possibility of vanishing without a trace and starting a new life. The core of the project will surround a Japanese phenomenon known as Jōhatsu, or "evaporated people". My aim is to take a look at the microcosm of this phenomenon to tell a universal story about general and common human desires, longings and fears. I want to look at the topic from multiple perspectives: from the perspective of the "evaporated" and the ones left behind. In the project I am collaborating with the Japanese filmmaker and editor Arata Mori.
