Purpose of the residency

After our journey in Tokyo in 2014, we've kept fascinated by the impression of permanent renewal of the city, demolishing and building up again. Nevertheless, the Nakagin Capsule Tower build in 1972 as a manifesto of metabolism utopia, is still standing up despite its very bad shape. We thought we should lead an enquiry to understand this extraordinary building, not from the profesional point of view of its architect, but gathering expressions, ideas, sensations around this edifice. Therefore our purpose during this stay is to take time discovering the place, interviewing inhabitants, working with artists, letting ourselves free to be astonished by Tokyo.

Plan during the residency

- Meetings with Takami Sugawara and inhabitants of the Nakagin Capsule Tower
- Meetings with architects, historians, different professionals
- Conference at the French Institue on January, 25th
- Walk around the city and the area of the Nakagin Capsule Tower - Artistic activities (sound, video, writings...)
