During my time at Tokyo Wonder Site, I will continue previous research and creation based on field work started in 2012 and 2016. A majority of my time will be dedicated to a research and creation work called "Photo-haikus and other urban landscapes", looking at the relationship between modernity and nature in Tokyo. I will also continue work on my project « Post Tohoku », in the area affected by the tsunami in 2011. I plan to spend two separate weeks in the area, based with research partners in Ishinomaki. As in previous residencies, time will also be dedicated to networking and artistic exploration, as to deepen my relationship to Japan.
1) For "Photo-haikus and other urban landscapes", I will continue my discussion with Raquel Moreno-Penaranda (University of Tokyo). She will direct me to initiatives and researchers on « nature and modernity » in Tokyo. Inspired by these discussion and research ideas, I will continue photographic, sound and video work across Tokyo. Examples of that ongoing work is attached.
2) For Post Tohoku, I'll continue work to work the 3-11 tsunami hit area, where I spent time in 2012/16. I will spend two separate weeks of work in the region, based in Ishinomaki and working with the NPO "It's Just Not Mud". During that time, I will revisit zones previously seen to document evolution of geographic and human landscape. See example of photographic work attached.
3) Networking and artistic exploration.
