Purpose of the residency
I'd like to spent more time on the writing part of my practice, experimenting with narrative techniques and ways to bring text into a public. I'm hoping to connect with like-minded artists and others, both for my project (as I'm collecting materials and characters to be integrated into my graphic narratives and references) and beyond, for discourse and further collaboration. Talking of which, I would be very interested in collaborating with a (electronic) musician / producer, as I'm looking for sound-material / tracks / pieces for my next reading performance project. I'd be very keen to find someone to work with me on this!
Plan during the residency
I will be working on a three-part project that fictionalizes graphic production, based on historical or living artists - towards a performance. This project is centred around the production of text, but also includes artefacts and image material. This project will try to tap into local stories and alternative traditions in Japan, conncting them to comparable story-lines from abroad.
