Purpose of the residency
My focus for this residency will be cloth artworks. In the selection of images for the application process I focused on performances and artworks that involved fabrics. In this line of works I´ll continue to develop relationships and collaborations especially with Japanese artists I got to know during an earlier stay at TWS and through activities in Berlin such as the Japanese artist Yuichiro Tamura I'm starting a collaboration with for an exhibition project next year.
Plan during the residency
One idea is based on a thesis of Gottfried Semper of the textile origin of the architecture and the principle of clothing as an artistic original technology that equally fulfills the decoration and protection needs of the people. Following that thesis I´ll look more closely into Japanese textile culture and it´s relations with architecture. An idea is to develop a performance project together with the Japanese performance Group Olta.
A second research will bring me to the town of Futaba again which I visited in 2013 with Yoi Kawakudo.
