Aside from NY, London also has its own important history behind the globalization of graffiti scene. The context of graffiti, however, is very different between those two major cities. While it is highly regarded as visual art practice in NY, in most cases categorized as abstract painting or pop art, in London, it could be described more as a carrier of "message" in a conceptualized manner.
The comparative tendencies and the roles between these two cities in contrast, is an important topic to be referred to the contemporary art scene today, and to be discussed and developed for an exploration of new ideas through a lecture I wish to give to students and researchers at the Chelsea College.
"Aeromural" is a site-specific project that combines two art forms, transforming from one to another. The first half is a mural of Quick Turn Structure and the second is a sound installation composed of the aerosol sounds recorded through the mural creation. It aims to transform a visual mode of mural into an audible one.
This was the concept when I have done the project in New York, however, it can be developed further. One idea is that, once recorded, "Aeromural" is fundamentally a digital data prior to being played as sounds. I'd like to pursue such conceptual possibility of the project discussing with the people at Chelsea College.
