Purpose of the residency
In recent years, the term "otaku" is very popular, "otaku" is a word that can be applied to a variety of antisocial youth and it is sometimes abused, misused to an extended proportions. Not long ago this year in the Taipei MRT carriage random stabbing incident, it seems the perpetrator has been addicted to anime and games; lacking the ability to communication with the opposite sex "otaku" itself became a kind of sin. So I hope to enter the so-called "otaku" birthplace - Akihabara, to perform in-depth research, investigation and compared the similarities and differences between of "otaku culture" between the two places. I hope to have a better understanding and obtain nutrition and materials for future creation.
Plan during the residency
My way of the creation has been surrounding research of two different directions, one is the politics and another is the culture. In the politics, I always use the humorous and acidulous way to paint "the human gods of Asia". And in the culture, I am seeking or try to clarify what the Taiwanese culture is. Looking at the Taiwanese region and its history, we can find the culture constitute mainly of Han Chinese. At the same time the Japanese cultures after Meiji Restoration also had significant impact on Taiwanese culture. Because of a previous project- international radio gymnastics, it is the comparison of Taiwanese national health exercise familiar to people born before the 1970s and its two counterparts - Japanese and the Korea Health Gymnastics, their differences and similarities, at the same time exploring the "international" of the three countries and what the word represents and the huge difference in meaning.
