Purpose of the residency

The 20th century brought crucial transformations. They took place at all levels: in the global balance of power, politics, and more particularly in technology. The 21st century accelerated almost all processes so now we are witnessing these changes become an integral part of our lives, transform people, their behavior, perception and consciousness. How the world turns on influences of new technology and how do we change? What is a FUTURE? How do we understand it and how far spread its knowledge? Now we are still living in the world which attitude to new technology and future was shaped in the beginning of 20th century under influence of industrial achievement and development of new technology. I met and interviewed scientists, philosophers, artists in Europe and America. I have realized that I am missing an important part - how this process happening in Asia, especially in Japan - the country with the new technology avant-garde and at the same time a country what culture and fashion life is so different from our - that oscillates between the traditional password and high-tech reality. The country where the recent nuclear catastrophe has made many Japanese to think about their future in the modern world, where technology not only brings comfort but also creates disaster.

Plan during the residency

I would like to establish contact with local creative communities in art field as well in science and applied science. (Some of institutions I am interested in : Japan Neuroscience Society; Japan Media Arts Festival; the Japanese Psychological Association...) To interview people about how new technological tools and devises influence their life, what did it change or is changing? Technology is not only 'improving' man, but also is touching in its core that we can speak of a new man or 'post man'. In the conversation it will be possible to deeper into this vision and investigate what role art can play. Can art help to create a new man and save us from disaster? how is our FUTURE?
I will make a film about bio houses constructed by Yumi Kori, Tokyo based architect. Also I would like to organize one day event in residency and to invite Yumi Kori as an artist, and create with her an environnment using existing space possibily, changing it with help of light and video projection.
