Purpose of the residency
The purpose of my participation in this program is to communicate in an exhibition format the results of the educational photography program that the Venezuelan photographer Violette Bule has been developing for over two years in five prisons in the country. The goal of this artistic project is to use photography as an instrument at the service of processes of humanization within the Venezuelan penitentiary system. In my stay in TWS I want to put in a different context how in this spaces photography became in an element for visual communication and expression of the symbolic reality of subjects.
Plan during the residency
My plans during my resident period, besides organizing the exhibition of the photography project I'm also developing several programs of activities that involve artist and students of Japan to explain how work this project of humanization of penitentiary reality and show the parallelism with other initiatives that are happen in the context of the prisons in Venezuela. To make this I'm preparing a series of lectures and video sessions at Tokyo Wonder Site, Musashino Art University and the Embassy of Republic Bolivarian of Venezuela.
