Purpose of the residency
Cities have longstanding reputations and overwhelming X factor that easily moves from the public space to our self-referential system. I am researching how cities can take control over the work of art's physical location (indoors, outdoors or out of site/ center or periphery). Tokyo will be the base of my research for future works that might take different forms (painting, photography, performance or installation).
Plan during the residency
I would like first to discover the city for the groundwork; take exhausting walks through the districts of Tokyo, study the familiar, the worn and exotic and in parallel benefit from the gathering of artists from different environments for the use of different references and speculations. I am planning to apply the daily or weekly result of my research in new work/s; develop a mode of documentation as an art form, present it and share opinions at the Open Studio to be held in August and September during my stay at TWS.
