Profile

Nao Usami is a digital artist.
Graduated with an M.A. in Film and New Media from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2020.
Her game project “I stitch my skin to the ground” was selected by the jury of the New Animation Art of Prix Ars Electronica 2024 for the Honorary Mention. She continues to create and showcase artwork based on feminism. She has expanded her activities internationally through residencies and exhibitions.

About works / performance

Nao Usami’s artwork is currently focused on videos, video games, and performances using 3D computer graphics technology. She believes in games because of their ability to allow players to experience situations with other people and objects. In her practice, she explores the expression that evokes physical or tactile sensations. Recently, she has started creating performances using VR and motion capture. She is interested in the interaction between the moving images and the body.
