About curation

As a curator, I am deeply interested in how artists today address the political and historical entanglements of imperialism in the Pacific.
Taking a transpacific position, my dissertation maps the rise of contemporary artists exploring the confluence between US and Japanese militarism
in the region, considering artistic modes of being in common that circumvent national frameworks.
I aim to intervene in the fields of Art History and Asian Studies by exploring the interconnectedness of art practices in Japan, the US, Okinawa, Hawai’i, Jeju, Taiwan, and Guam. This project is initiated through curatorial activism, a commitment to making accessible the visual culture “in,
of and from the margins” to support the notion of deterritorialized forms of collectivity.
