Born in 1983 in Fukuoka, Japan, Kenji Makizono studied video and new media in Tokyo. In 2011, he decided to return his hometown Fukuoka then started to work on his art practice. He had participated in various residency programs in Asia such as Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

Makizono is also a committee member of alternative spaces "art space tetra" and an art festival "Itoshima International Art Festival - Ito Arts Farm" in Fukuoka besides his own art activity.
