Profile

Born in China in 1987. Lives and works in Shanghai. Graduated with a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from Changchun University of Science and Technology in 2010.
Paul Han is a curator, writer, and translator based in Shanghai. Han writes for LEAP, ArtReview, frieze, etc. From 2015-2021, He worked at not-for-profit art organisation Arthub as exhibition manager and producer. Since 2021, he started personal research and writing focuses on the disappearing of working class and queer ecology.

About curation

My practice is driven less by a specific medium than by a recurring question: how are systems of value established, and who gains the authority to decide what belongs, be excluded, and survives? They run through my writing and curatorial works.

Rather than treating queerness, feminism, or working-class struggles as separate fields, I approach them as different symptoms of the same structures that organise visibility, legitimacy, and disposability. The making and un-making of power.

Gardening is never ‘natural’, but a carefully curated system of selection, cultivation, and removal. By moving between these different disciplines, I seek to expose how power becomes normalised or even hyper-normalised through acts of classification, selection, care, and exclusion, to reconsider the mechanisms that shape both cultural production and everyday life.
