Purpose of the residency

After World War II, Japan removed most of its political monuments, replacing them with peace memorials and apolitical public symbols—reflecting a conscious shift in collective memory toward neutrality and reflection.

During the residency period, I will be working on my research and production between ideological monuments, which force people to participate in a specific context, and participatory brands like Yuru-kyara(regional mascots), which commercialize identity and encourage public engagement through consumerism.

Though one uses force and the other uses friendly invitation, both are powerful tools that shape how people see themselves and their society.
