Purpose of the residency

The main reason for my residency is to approach the richness and diversity of Japanese book production. I want to create a new work, based on the direct contact with an immense diversity of book titles, magazines and other bound materials, illustrated narrative and handscrolls. I intend to research the production of Japanese books through visits to bookshops and publishing houses in order to look for the latest published volumes, academic collections, art books, old magazines, and rare antique books, and to explore the diversity of bindings, formats, sizes, papers and layouts available there. Regarding to the content of the books, my focus will be on books of art and literature.

Plan during the residency

-I will visit several bookshops and publishing houses to research material to make my work.
-I intend to walk through the city to draw everyday objects to create my own book.
-Visit the Tokyo National Museums, the Gotoh Museum, the Edo-Tokyo Museum, the National Diet Library, Tokyo Metropolitan Library and other related institutions. And visit the Osu Washi house.
-based on the results of my research I'd like to prepare a new drawings for the installation
