In continuation of my recent research about contemporary dance and my material investigation about the opposed qualities of wax and water I am planning to develop a work called "Body in Stages: liquid/solid" in Tokyo. This work relates to the meaning of elements in the Japanese dance practice of Butoh. I will visit classes to learn from Butoh practitioners about structural qualities of the human body between liquid and solid. Within the residency period in Tokyo I want to collect different materials related to the subject. Further on I am planning to develop a series of photographs from the collected material.
-study the dance technique of Butoh with different teachers and learn about its background
-observe movements in public and private
-collect objects, materials and activities related to the element water
-travel to different regions to learn about traditions and ceremonies related to the meaning of elements (especially water)
-learn about the organization of public space and architecture and it's impact on Japanese society
