Japan is one of the main donors to Cambodia. Lately, Japan has been looking for immigrant workers from Cambodia, and a new agreement on migrant labor has been made between the two countries' governments. To conduct this residency will enable me to locate Cambodian immigrant communities in Japan, learn, and create work and workshops based on their stories, lives, and dreams. Tokas will be the perfect place for me to exchange with local and international artists during my time. For example, I also would like to collaboration with local Japanese origami artist to conduction workshop with Cambodia Migrant workers.
-I would like to visit Cambodian immigrant workers, in the places where they live and work. I also would like to stay with them if possible. I would like to interview them with sound and video recording, to record their stories in their own words.
-I want to make an experiment documentary film focusing on them and with them. Concept of film: their memories, archives (old family photos, Facebook/video/photos on their phone), experiences living as migrant workers abroad, their future expectations.
-I will need to travel to different provinces of Japan to meet Cambodian immigrants.
-I will create the workshops with or without Collaborations with local artists in Tokas or in tokyo or on side of research for example origami workshop or teaching English depend on thier need.
-Create my own photo series involving migrant workers titled "Temporary" in questions of the physical and representations of borders/barriers that divide them from home country and where they live and work. Basically, it is side specific installation for photography. I will make portraits of individuals or groups of Cambodian migrant workers with a backdrop of many different construction fence with the landscape of the 6 countries specifically cityscape and provincial landscape in general.
