The idea of the research I will conduct during the residency is inspired by "Vanitas" which is associated with the still life paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries in Flanders and the Netherlands. The Latin noun, vānĭtās means "emptiness" and common symbols include skulls, which are a reminder of the certainty of death and mortality of our own bodies. The primary idea is to create my own skull or entire skeleton to confront my future body after the death, which is impossible to happen naturally, by borrowing the leading 3d printing technology in Tokyo, Japan where this specific technology was initiated. I will contact the medical technology firm NEXT21 K.K. and the University of Tokyo's brain science institute RIKEN to learn about a new 3d printing technology that can create custom-made artificial bone and possibility of development for the execution of the project in terms of the budget.
