Purpose of the residency
Following the meeting with Hiraku Suzuki 8 years ago and his recent invitation to start a common reflexion on drawing thanks to an artistic collaboration. The purpose of a residency at Tokyo Arts and Space will be to experiment and to mix our common concerns: The connection that we have with the infinitely large, the spiritual and the invisible. The search of an universal vocabulary, in the form of a writing for Hiraku and for me, in the more abstract form. In addition, I am a huge fan of numerous japanese artists and drawers in particular for their very special way to use emptiness as a real material and their use of black and white.
Plan during the residency
- Practicing drawing alone and with Hiraku Suzuki - Visiting museums, foundation, artistic places dedicated to art and to architecture - Meeting with japanese people - Inviting curators and relevant people to visit my studio
