Purpose of the residency

I aim to utilise the research residency as a way to explore the intersection between craft, design and industry within the urban setting of Sumida, Tokyo. Through a direct engagement with the community of makers, Sumida City Office, and atelier visits. I also aim to visit Tokyo design week, disseminate my research ideas amongst the design community, and develop a collaborative project with local craftspeople with the aid of Sumida City Office.

Plan during the residency

- Meeting with Sumida City Office
- Visiting Ateliers and meeting with craftspeople
- Visiting Kyowa Seiko, one of the remaining watch manufactuers in Akita
- Visiting exhibition locations and site visits for October 2017
- Presenting current research to key project partners, fellow creators and industry
