Purpose of the residency
My project will consist in the production of images in which I'll represent the city through its people, their use of the urban space and how they move in that context. It is very difficult to see people walking in the streets of Los Angeles, I'd like to compare and reflect the contrasts of two industrialized modern cities like Tokyo and Los Angeles.
As an example of one of the things that I'd like to create in images is people walking, as a mean of something that is not present in Los Angeles, a human scale. Maybe the contrast with Tokyo will be very evident and I'll discover different ways to describe that reality.
I'll search for those symbols, clues that will allow me to represent in a simple, effective way, the realities, the brief moments of two intriguing cities.
Plan during the residency
I'd like to walk through the city, visit markets and other public places to do my research in the quest for details and unique clues of daily life in Tokyo.
I will work on ensemble all the ideas that I will gather in my field work in the city, compiling the information and producing digital sketches, animation and begging to edit my video installation.
I will also work on sketches on paper that will help me to produce the bigger acrylic paintings.
