Over the last few years when I was researching for my work I often encountered different forms of expression of Japanese art and aesthetic concepts like for example Suiseki, Ikebana, Manga and Sumi-e. Most of the time it was more 'finding them' than a conscious 'looking for them'. Sometimes I study the techniques, development and history of the art and it inspires my work. I would like to learn more about those techniques and forms of expressions and therefor learn more about my own work. And I will find out more about my fascination with Japanese culture and not only from far away and through the Internet but personally and directly.
I just started a new series of pencil and watercolor drawings titled‚ vision/cloud'. It follows up on a series from 2008 which was based on visualisations of visions, hallucinations and transformations from mangas and comics. The new series will take my own visions, memories, fascinations and small and big shifts as a starting point.
In Tokyo I would like to start a new‚ vision/Tokyo cloud'-series. It will be based on my encounters on walks through the city, my impressions of art, food and my surrounding, people i will meet and every day life. It could be patterns or letters but also something seen from the corner of my eye or something that just scurried along. It could be the unknown, the familiar, the invisible.
