Purpose of the residency
As most Europeans I only know Japan from movies, documentaries and all the wonderful electronic devices I always used. The country and the culture seem alien to me and at the same time fascinating and attractive. I'm looking forward to learn more about those contrasts between the traditional Japanese culture and the high-tech society it is today. I would like to go out to gain new experience, to explore new scopes, to get involved with the unknown and to meet other artists in a new artistic environment.
Plan during the residency
I would like to get involved unbiased into something new, of which I probably expect to be sometimes diametrically opposed to my understanding of art and culture. I also hope to learn more about contemporary Japanese art and to get new impulse for my own artistic work, from all those lighting concepts I expect to see live in Tokyo. As well I'm looking forward to meet again the Japanese artists I got to know at different art projects here in Europe (Mitsunori Kurashige, Satoshi Ogawa, Takahiro Oshii). I admit that those are big expectations for such a short time, but «I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship» (Casablanca). It is my first time in Japan.
