Tokyo, Japan's capital city and the largest metropolitan area in Asia, is currently undergoing serious problems as a result of Fukushima disasters. These problems have, in turn, brought about considerable changes in Japanese society ? including its art world. The responses of some artists to this new reality reflect the ethos of a 'post-Fukushima era'. My intention is to examine the social function of the artist with particular reference to Japanese art and the social changes experienced by Japanese artists at the contemporary art world Tokyo. At the same time, I intend to carry out more in-depth research into the aesthetic superiority of traditional architecture and its approach to space : Ryoanji Temple as well as Kinkaku-ji for the 'architecture of light' to a contemporary buildings in metropolitan city Tokyo. Which will form a fruitful connection to my ongoing work.
Carry out research in the following areas: the function of art within Japanese society, and the relationships between art and society centring on changes in architecture and design and personally investigate the contemporary Japanese art scene, including shows at MOT, the Mori Art Museum, the Hara Museum, and many other galleries and institutions, in order to ascertain current and future trends in contemporary Japanese art I'll also visit places in Japan and interview artists, curators and writers: artists whose works show stylistic and thematic changes as a result of moving away from the personal (poetic, otaku) style to foreground social issues such as the Fukushima disaster.
