We have been working on the concept and the spatial/pictorial aspects of the garden for a couple of years now. We understand a garden not only as the commonly accepted park enclosure or compound, which features all sort of historically grown physical or artistic implementations, but we also like to associate the notion with the garden-like structures that arise from the digital conditions of our everyday life. It is the Informational Web and its highly branched topography in particular, but also the new pictorial language of 3D presentations, that have made it possible for us to stride through Digital ("Virtual") Space in a symbolic way which can be compared to movement in an enclosed site such as a garden or a park.
On the occasion of our earlier, short visits to Japan 2005 and 2006 we were fascinated to see how in Asian megacities traditional lifestyle and architecture are intertwined with today's technological advancements and constant changes. From this parallelism of urban situations we hope to find an impact towards our idea of a digital 'Garden'. In Tokyo we would like to go deeper with our real space fieldwork.
