Purpose of the residency
My main objectives for the residency are cultural immersion, research and production of new work. I am drawn to Japan's hyperdrive approach to technology as well as its radical subcultures. Japan as a country imbues cultural progress with technological innovation, creating a cultural atmosphere of exciting momentum and synergy. As someone who is heavily inspired by future worlds and speculative visions in their art practice, I believe the dynamic energy of Tokyo city will be a conduit in creating new hybrid channels in my work.
Plan during the residency
I intend to research Manga techniques in relation to the technical production of my own drawings. I also intend to directly engage with artistic communities and seek out fandom subcultures that remain relatively unknown in Australia.
