Purpose of the residency

Having been born and raised in Japan, I have been living in Berlin for the past nine years, and I have been thinking a lot about the various differences of culture. Thus, when I am making my art works I keep asking myself "How can I deal with Germany or look at Germany from a different point of view, as a Japanese." In my residency I want to reflect on the Western concept of what I call "I = personality" from a Japanese perspective, and reconsider this concept of individualism is synonym with the idea of modern self. Also, I would like to think about a border between of oneself and others. I think that German culture stands in a context of Western art-history. My work experience includes curating exhibitions in Germany. Thus, I can invite artists from different countries, and I want to do so during my residency - to make multinational exhibitions that will deal with the topic mentioned above. I would like to hold tow exhibition as a group exhibition and solo exhibition.
