I would like to stay at Tokyo Wonder Site so I can continue working on a book about the city of Tokyo with Atelier Bow-Wow. As a photographer, I have worked with Atelier Bow-Wow for several years, as we have overlapping interests in the urban fabric and how people inhabit cities. Atelier Bow-Wow approaches the urban vernacular, using their research/work to document the prevailing logic of the city. I have also recently completed multiple projects on the city, documenting spaces through the architectural and infrastructural lenses. My recent book on the Modernist cities of Brasilia - Chandigarh: Living With Modernity with Lars Mueller Publishers, my documentation with the Benesse Foundation on the Setouchi islands in Japan, as well as the book "No More Play" with Michael Maltzan and USC, School of Architecture in Los Angeles on the city, all are in-depth documentations of places.
I look forward to the opportunity to stay at Tokyo Wonder Site so I can continue to collect images of Tokyo in order complete the book.
I will be spending most of the residency period out in the city of Tokyo, photographing the diverse urban configurations and social structures that define the city. I will be exploring the city to come across new structures, as well as working with Atelier Bow-Wow to document the various typologies that they have been researching for many years.
Back at the residency, I will be using the space to edit my images, as well as make selections for the book. It will be very helpful to have the space so generously offered by Tokyo Wonder Site.
