In the enormous chaos of products in the world, we want to make products that can contribute to new rituals or that can re-interpret old ones. Rituals make us aware of time and our environment. We would like to make use of a residency to explore the significance of the rituals of our time and give them a new form and meaning.
Although we have never had the opportunity to study Japanese culture in detail, it has always fascinated us. We are curious about Japanese culture and its traditions and customs: the extent of the manmade landscape, the ambiguous love of nature, the refined and highly considered design of products and interiors, the attention to craftsmanship and productionprocesses, the celebration of the seasons, not wanting to leave anything to chance, people's awareness of their customs and environment, etc. We recognise many of these aspects in our own working method.
OPEN STUDIO 2010
We expect that this research will broaden our horizons and lead to new insights in our work.
We also wish to explore various Japanese production processes by visiting companies and workshops.
