Purpose of the residency

I have never stayed Japan for 3 month since I left there in 1998. Coming from the context of New York, what I am interested in the most now are; researching Jikken Kobo, Sogetsu Art Center activities, and Hi Red Center. I would like to communicate with particular lines of historical avant garde art in Japan (especially in Tokyo). I am planning to meet some of artists who are still active, and then begin to formulate some new project from the experience.

While I am in Tokyo, many of my artists friends will visit me from New York or Berlin. I will reconstruct my understanding of Japanese History or Art History, or Art History in Tokyo with a help of my friend's new gaze to my country. I will rediscover another kind of Art from Tokyo. All those activities with my friends will be documented as posters or pamphlet. I will also conduct several performance during three months. Everything will be on display at the exhibition in April.
