Purpose of the residency

Purpose of the residency
I am convinced that my participation within this residency program, which is based in the most city-like city in the world, will give me an important opportunity to communicate with various artists and viewers and to explore and inquire into 'city', 'body' and 'art', and grasp a present answer to the proposition 'at what point, does ''I'' end and ''we'' begin?'

Achievements of the residency
・ Upon finishing the residency:
It was significant two months to be able to participate in the Research Residence Program of TWS.
Because my residency period schedule was very peculiar, leaving early in the morning to the museum and come back late at night, my research was not about keeping intimate company with a particular group of people, but was about associating with indefinite number of people from all over the world. It was derived from the characteristic of the town Roppongi, and a very unique research was achieved. That was quite urban and was invaluable experience in researching into the city.
Although my residency ends, my exhibitions and stationing at TWS will continue. My prospect and conclusion are to come. I would like to present some of my prospects and new questions at the achievement exhibition to be held in September.

・ Encountering with indefinite number of people
I have associated with about 300,000 people and the research will continue.

Outcome of the exchange
"Roppongi Crossing 2010: Can There Be Art?", Mori Art Museum
The video + installation + performance work: the artist himself stationed and performed at the gallery for 107 days.

Briefly about the work:
Video recording the actions which took place in the installation, project them in mirror wise, and the artist himself (Amemiya) who stations at the gallery performs the same as or totally different from the projected image.

Plan during the residency

Inquiring into the 'city', 'body' and 'art', creating and representing a new work of my life-long project, 'Whiplash Neuron', which is based in urban cities and started from the Tokyo Wonder Site Shibuya in 2008.
