"On Site Lab Workshop Series" is a program of creative educational workshops in which creators representing different genres and nationalities work together to explore opportunities for taking on social issues. In the 6th edition of the series, participants working under the overall theme of Creative Dialogue and Commitment to the Environment will seek to open new intellectual horizons though research, lectures, and art production, guided by tutors who are active at the forefront of their fields both in Japan and overseas. Issues addressed over the previous 5 years include "+hand", "shoreline environments", "global warming and greening efforts", "garbage", and "luxurious time and space". This time the program looks at the issue of new community design. In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, experiments in the building of new communities are underway in many places around Japan. This is a unique opportunity to discuss, consider, and act together to build a social system founded on new values, with a long-term vision, encompassing a comprehensive range of fields including culture, economy, and environment. What sort of environment is needed for a true revival? The workshop program will explore the nature of sustainable living through research in community design covering diverse fields such as information design, urban planning, and fine arts and culture.

We are looking forward to welcoming creators interested in this program and who present an active approach to it, not only from the artistic point, but from various fields, such as music, environment or economics. Participants of various nationalities or specialties will work on the research theme in 3 programs.

・To be able to participate in the whole program over 70 percent.
・Spoken proficiency in English

Voices from the participants on previous programs
・Creating works together with artists of different nationalities was a fun and refreshing experience thanks to the participants' different ideas and creative processes.
・Approaching environmental issues from an artist's viewpoint is in my opinion an opportunity to take an objective look at one's own work and evaluate the self-responsibility of one's methods.
・I was glad I could take part and had the opportunity to work with people trained in different disciplines to my own and felt that I learned new ways of working that I could apply to my own career.
