Laurence Petitpas is a French Canadian interdisciplinary artist. She approaches different artistic disciplines from a “puppetic” point of view. Her latest project, Mutatis Mutandis !, is a scenic proposal about the abyss, merging scientific facts and fantasized perspective. It addresses vulnerability and porosity between the known and the unknown worlds.

As a puppeteer, I engage in dialogues with all kinds of bodies whether they are human or not, organic or artificial. I pay attention to the wide range of aesthetics found in motion and sound from either found objects or self-made instruments. The encounters with different audiences become a fertile ground allowing me a new perspective on time and space. As I experience the world, I observe the interplay between what I feel, what I think and how my actions depict that. Drawing what surrounds me is how I document this dynamic. Drawing becomes the catalyst that connects those dimensions. Thus, is my pencil also a puppet ?
