NISHI Takatoku

Profile

Nishi obtained doctorate in Design at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and is now enrolled in a second doctoral course in Architecture, where he’s engaged in daily research. He’s also head of the artist team "Space Production Lab" and founded the duo "OSOTO lab.," which is active in projects.

About works / performance

Nishi is strongly attracted to the constantly changing spectacle created by nature. He creates spaces of light by reconstructing the optical phenomena hidden in these scenes through materials and structures. The work is characterised by the use of knowledge of optics, meteorology and mechanics, from which it takes its geometrical form and the forces of nature, such as the sun and wind. Another thing he has in mind is the atmosphere that emanates from his work, and he places importance on the harmony between the work and the environment that surrounds it. His space becomes a medium, making people realise the power of nature and the opportunity to appreciate the beauty that is close at hand.
