Born in 1969. Graduated from Master degree in Modern Litterature in 1993.
Recent main activities are conference "The "Koi" principle in japanese art" (The Geneva Book Fair, Switzerland, 2012), "Japanese Genesis : love as a principle" (the Human sciences Institute of Lyon, France, 2012), Round table conference with writer Wataya Risa (Paris International Book Fair, France, 2012), Conference "Cultural structures of homosexuality in Japan" (LGBT Book Fair, Brussels, Belgium, 2012), "France-Japan : compared fantasies" (Bookuoka, Fukuoka, Japan, 2010).
About works / performance
Author of books dedicated to the japanese culture, Agnès Giard studies the aesthetic and mythological logic which underlies the surprising appearances of Japanese modernity. Her books are :"Erotic fantasy in Japan"（2006）、"Dictionary of love and pleasure in Japan"（2008）、"Objects of Desire in Japan "（2009）. The first book, translated in japanese and published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha in dec. 2010 became one of the first foreign books sold by this publisher, and got the 4 rank of "best-10" books in Tôkyôdô in 2011. Still now, this book seems to be ranked "foreign book best-seller" in Tsutaya. In 2010, selected by the French Foreign Affair Ministry, Agnes Giard became resident at Villa Kujoyama (Kyôto), during 6 months, in order to write a book about "the concept of Koi". It will be published in France in sept 2012 under the title :"Love stories in Japan. From original myths to contemporary fables". Agnès Giard stayed 14 times in Japan. She now makes anthropology Phd studies and write a research book about japanese dolls to go deeper into the understanding of japanese culture.
