Born in 1968, in Mâcon (France). Graduated from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris (Fine Arts School of Paris) in 1991.
His late exhibitions are After Frenhofer, ESADHaR, 2016 ; Fabriquer le dessin, Frac Haute-Normandie, 2015 ; Des liés, La Forge, 2015 ; Méduses, Museum d'histoire naturelle du Havre, 2014.
Patrice Balvay lives and works in Le Havre, a Norman city destroyed by allied bombs in 1944. Large harbor pools, changing light and presence of water influence his researches. Patrice Balvay practices drawing and painting as two parallel and complementary activities. His studio is located Fort, an old military fort, recently transformed in a culture area by the city of Le Havre. He started in 2015 a painting series about a taxidermy laboratory, standing next to his own studio. The Drawing by Walking project in TWS Residency is listed on « Le Havre 2017 », a program of many cultural events dedicated to the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the founding of the city.
