Purpose of the residency

I plan to develop "In My Memory are Lagoons," a curatorial project exploring how contemporary art activates collective memory and ecological thinking through sound, installation, and embodied research. This phase of the project will focus on Japanese artists whose practices engage with non-extractive ecologies, ancestral knowledge systems, and technologies of listening—particularly those that propose alternative modes of sensing, remembering, and coexisting with more-than-human worlds. I aim to connect with artists, curators, and researchers working at the intersection of environmental history, sonic archives, and post-growth imaginaries, seeking collaborations that foreground minor, situated, and relational ways of knowing and making.

Plan during the residency
  • Connect with artists, curators, and researchers working across the researched fields, and to understand how these discourses are shaped locally
  • Field trips to sites of ecological and historical resonance
  • Research at art institutions, libraries, and archives in Tokyo and its surroundings
  • Keep a research journal—both visual and sonic
