Open Studio is a special occasion for the audience to see the creative process of residing creators and to hear their talks and discussion with guest speakers.
On 7/13 (Sat), eight creators will give talks on their artworks and activities during the residency and the special talk will be held by LEE Kai Chung and our guest ARAKI Natsumi on 7/14 (Sun).
During the process of research on archival materials related to Pan-Asian logistics during World War II, Lee came to realize the authorities’ power to create an impotent or incomplete representation of history. He aims to suspend such established historical judgement and instead uncover details to create micronarratives based on personal experiences, allowing for reinterpretation and imagination.
Our guest speaker Araki Natsumi who has organized various exhibitions related to history and memory will discuss Lee‘s practice from the perspective on how research contributes to art-making.
And on 7/13 (Sat) and 7/14 (Sun), there will be a Gallery Tour which will start from this Open Studio.
TOKAS staff will introduce residing creators’ activities and researches at each exhibition space in Japanese.
