Nearly five years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, segments of the railroad (JR Joban Line) remain closed in Soma City and Soma District, Fukushima Prefecture, as a result of the nuclear plant accident to the south and tsunami damage to the north. To go somewhere, one has to find a route that does not involve the train. A child born amid the chaos of the disaster will soon be five years old. In this project he picked up cameras and, from the unique perspective of children, captured landscapes seen while traveling between Tokyo and Soma; and the artist, who has made the round-trip dozens of times, transformed their photos into paintings. Down a road, the remains of damage from the disaster, and scenes of people going on with their lives, intersect and continue in complex ways.
